Villa Ada

A restored 15th century monastery that flawlessly blends history and art with modern luxury.

Overview

Villa Ada is a beautifully-restored 15th century monastery that has been transformed into luxury accommodation for up to 10 guests.

Set in a secluded location, it offers complete privacy, making it the perfect property for a relaxing getaway. With its spacious interiors, tranquil gardens, and stunning art collection, it’s ideal for relaxing getaways with family and friends, spiritual healing retreats, or living like an art collector!

Within the fortress, the massive walls offer fantastic acoustics, perfect for an evening of outdoor cinema. On top of the fortress is the sunset terrace, boasting panoramic views of the sea, the surrounding islands, and the national park on Mljet. It’s the perfect space for sipping cocktails as the sun sets over the water, or even a bit of quiet stargazing from the canopied day beds.

In the heart of the monastery is the cloister, which has been completely restored yet retains its charm with original plaster, tiles and stone.

Once a pleasure garden, the Lower Garden boasts a traditional pergola walk, shady olive trees, and a sundeck ideal for al fresco dining. The Upper Garden stretches along the fortress walls and is ensconced in aromatic herbs and native Mediterranean foliage, creating an ideal area for casual barbecues and relaxed picnics overlooking the surrounding islands. Finally – inspired by the original apothecary garden – the Sacred Garden merges the four elements of art, architecture, spirituality and healing; it is designed for meditation and contemplation amongst its medicinal plants, flowers, and fruit trees.

A truly unique on-site feature is the Black Horizon Art Pavilion, which perfectly blends art and architecture. Created by artist Olafur Eliasson and architect David Adjaye, the permanent installation offers a space to view the surrounding landscape from an entirely new perspective.

Indoors, many of the property’s original features have been retained – even down to wall graffiti, which has been tastefully juxtaposed with modern art pieces – and are sure to impress any culture or history buff.

The entrance – the Angel’s Hall – features two 18th century baroque angels along with original wall inscriptions. The space can be used for welcome drinks or larger, sit-down dinners. More intimate family meals can be held in the Old Kitchen, which has a fully-function bread oven and an open fireplace, and leads out to a smaller garden.

The 13 original cells of the monastery have been converted into five spacious guest suites. Each room offers en-suite facilities and beautiful sea or garden views, and seamlessly blend modern comforts and contemporary art pieces with original features.

Just an hour from Dubrovnik, Villa Ada is a luxurious and unique property, perfect for an unforgettable getaway with loved ones.
